Ewell vs. Robinson

Atticus is providing some VERY good information in his case against the Ewells, especially the fact that Tom Robinson is crippled! However, I just can't imagine Atticus winning the case that easy; it would end the book. Who do you think will win the trial? The Ewells or Tom Robinson?

The Ewells are bound to lose.
It would greatly upset me if evil conquered over good.

Honestly i think the Ewells will win even though it should be Tom Robinson, but who knows.

Well, due to the time period that this book is set in, there's a very real chance that it will in fact be the Ewells who win the case. And a big factor of that is that Tom Robinson isn't white.

Obviously I'm not sure, but I think that the Ewells might win. It seems impossible that anyone would really believe Mr. Ewell's story, but it could turn out like the Scottboro boys. Robinson should definitely win the case but he's black and in a place where everyone else is prejudiced.

I think that Mr. Robinson will probably end up losing because of the time period that they are in and the fact that he is a black man in the south going up against a white man and his word. However, Atticus puts up a good fight and defends the man very well.

well if we remember the scottsboro boy's case, their lawyer pretty much had all the evidence and more to prove them innocent, but because of the times, people still were very, very racist against blacks, so they lost. atticus can provide all the evidence he needs, but it doesnt change the fact that tom robinson is black, so he wont be favored in court. so he will most likely lose.

Well, lets look at the facts.

They are in the south, a region known for their rascism (especially in the early 1900's).
The jury is all white, all male.
Mr. Ewell, as scummy as he is, is white.
Tom Robinson is black. In white, rascist Maycomb County. He doesn't have a chance.

Also in the same time period, the scottsboro boys eventually won their case so Mr. Robinson has a chance.

Uhm, actually no.
They lost it. Twice, I believe. And then they won. After like 6 years.

yeah and only one boy was pardoned because he was the only one alive.

and im pretty sure it wasnt in the same time period. They were all grown men when they were pardoned and by then times and views had changed a bit.

No one will win. Thanks to our legal system it will take them a lifetime to sort it out, plus all the legal appeals. It would be a miracle if they finished, and if it does finish then the book is fake.

So, it's pretty much decided that the Ewells will win. Sad as it is, we can't help that the South is extreme in prejudisim. Still, do you think Harper Lee will shock us all and provide a happy ending? A mystery.....

Happy endings are for pansies.

Haha Mr. Sex Talk, this was a little while before the justice system got as intricate as it is now.

Well..... I honestly think that Tom Robinson has a chance because Atticus is proving a stinkin' good case! How clever to point out that Mr. Ewell could have beat up his own daughter and probably did! that is so cool how Atticus points out that Tom is crippled.... he is such a good lawyer! I'd be very disappointed if that duo didn't win!!!

The book is very sad, because we all know that Tom is going to lose the trial, because of the time period in which they lived.

Well obviously it is because he is black. If he was white there wouldn't even be a case.
