Why does everyone attack Atticus and call him a "Nigger Lover?" I don't understand why people think it is such a big deal if your skin is a different color. From his kids being judged at school to even members of his own family being rude about it, Atticus cannot seem to escape the prejudice. However, I do applaud him for taking it so lightly and not changing his heart because of other's opinions, but I feel bad for Jem and especially Scout because you can tell that it bothers them a lot.
I just don't get why you would call someone a "Nigger Lover." Is Atticus more than fair and places negroes above everyone else, or is this just straight prejudism?

um, well obviously every is prejudiced against blacks and if Atticus is defending one, then everyone assumes that he favors them. it's not that hard to understand.
I would find it an honor to be called a "Nigger Lover." The fact that Atticus cares for people that are a different color than him is refreshing.
It's all about the time-period.
Back then, blacks were not consider equal.
That's just the way things were back then, people didn't even have to have a reason to be prejudice.Prejudice is like the plague once you catch it you cannot escape it.Atticus is a light-hearted man who does not take thinks too personally, which is why he is so sloved and respected. Again it is simply prejudice.

Authority Figure: I understand that. If you recall in the original post I was asking why they are so prejudice. I also understand that this is the time period, but I also wondered how people felt about Scout and Jems' reaction to it (also in the original post)and also wondered everyones' opinion on the last sentence.

Well Authority Figure, whoever you may be, I would be pleased if you began to call me a Nigger Lover because all people are precios to me and a love them all. All people except you at least.
Okay, I have an idea: The North was considered to be the rich and prosperous (sp?) part of the USA while the South suffered poverty. Therefore, to keep the Southeners feelings like they amount to something, they take all their rage out on blacks because that's the only thing beneath them.
I think I got this from the video we watched awhile back..not sure.
Also, it's hard to change your veiws when you are taught to hate someone from birth.

That's not stereotypical at all.
But the black people work in the fields. Whites considered themselves above that type of labor. That's why we had slaves.
