So, first of all Atticus is kind of on the weird side, but i think that he seems to be a good dad. I dont understand why he knows he going to lose the case and its ok with him?In chapter 8 he says "Atticus, are we going to win it?", "No honey.", "Then why-", "Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us no to try to win." Atticus said(76). I Don't understand this part because she says hes not going to win, but then he says there's no reason for us not to try to win?

Atticus wants to stand up for whats right. I think he is a really good person to do that but I think he is a weird dad. like his whole family tells him he isn't raising his kids right. I do understand that they don't have a mom but still. I don't know, maybe its just strange to me because i was raised differently.
Babyspice: He's raising his kids without all that "there are fairies and magic" crap. He tells Calpurnia (I think) that if Scout asks him a question not to beat around the bush and to just answer it. He's making them ready to handle real-life things without the illusion that everything is good and right and fair.
And yes, he wants to stand up for what's right. Just because he knows he'll lose is no reason for him to not defend the man. Perhaps he believes that something he says will get through to the masses of rascists and they will start to see the truth and how stupid they've been.
I think that Atticus knows they are not going to win simply because he is defending a black man, and the jury will take the white woman's word over the black man's (just like in the Scottsboro Boys documentary). However, Atticus will still do his best because he knows it is what is right and he wants to do the right thing for himself and his chlidren.
Atticus is not weird. he is my favorite character. So just keep your negativity to yourself pal!

Atticus is by far the best character, and werid dad how would you know? His kids seem to be growing up just fine, and with some values. Since when were you qualified to critize him.
